Professional Educator Certificate
If you have a Professional Educator Certificate (renewable), you must recertify every 5 years. To check your renewal date, refer to the validity period (listed as: mm/dd/yyyy – mm/dd/yyyy) listed with your subject certifications and endorsements; this period is 5 years prior to your expiration date. Renewal requirements vary by subject specialization and endorsement. Please review the specific requirements below to ensure you meet the criteria for your individual certificate.
Certificate Renewal Requirements
- Must have earned 120 in-service points
- 20 of the 120 in-service points designated as ESE/SWD
- ESE = Exceptional Student Education
- SWD = Students with Disabilities
- 100 of the 120 in-service points can be generic or from any area
- In-service points can be submitted in the form of college credit
- 20 of the 120 in-service points designated as ESE/SWD
- Pay the $75.00 fee to the FLDOE to submit your renewal application
Important Certificate Classifications
- Anyone with a Professional Educator Certificate with the following designations must meet different or additional criteria for recertification in addition to the requirements listed above:
- Educational Leadership
- Any teachers inolved in reading instruction
- Florida Administrative Code, Rule 6A-4.0051 requires the certification areas listed below to meet the 40-Hour Reading Renewal Requirement. The objective of this initiative is to ensure all educators delivering reading instruction are receiving current, effective, and research-informed training to bolster their practice.
- Reading (K-12)
- Reading (Endorsement)
- Prekindergarten/Primary Education (age 3 – Grade 3)
- Primary Education (K-3)
- Elementary Education (K-6)
- Elementary Education (1-6)
- Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (Grades 5-9)
- English (6-12)
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (K-12) (Not required for ESOL Endorsement)
- Exceptional Student Education (K-12)

How to Apply for Recertification
Step 1 – Where to Access
- Visit the FLDOE online licensing service site
- Sign on. Follow the prompts to retrieve your login info if you’ve forgotten it, or create an account if you’ve never made an account before.
Step 2 – The Application
- On the “Quick Start Menu,” locate the “Renewal Application,” and click, “Select”
- Complete the “Renewal Application” entirely
- NOTE: When you get to the “Function Suitability” section, locate the question, “Did you complete all renewal requirements prior to the expiration of this certificate?”
- Select “YES” even if you have not completed all your credits yet (as long as you will complete them by the time your certificate expires)

- NOTE: Endorsements are automatically renewed with your Professional Certificate and do not require a selection for renewal
- In the “District Affiliation” section, make sure to add “Charlotte”. Use the “District Number” search on the page
- Submit the application once you’ve completed and verified all the information
Step 3 – Payment
- DO NOT submit payment to the FLDOE
- The certficiate costs $75.00. You must pay through the Charlotte County Public Schools PayPal account.
- Access the checkout page here
- Select “State Certification $75.00 USD”
- If you encounter an issue with PayPal, choose “OTHER FEES” and type in the amount manually
- Save a copy of your receipt
- You will need to upload a copy of the receipt in “Records”
Step 4 – Confirmation
- Go to Classlink
- Select “Records” from the “Employee Resources” Folder
- Locate a “Task” titled “Certificate Renewal”
- Complete the form
- Click “Submit as Final”
- NOTE: You will receive an email from the FLDOE once your application has been processed
