2025-2026 K-12 ELA Instructional Materials Adoption

Adopted Instructional Materials

In accordance with Florida Statute 1006.28., the Charlotte County Public Schools will consider instructional materials for K-12 English Language Arts (ELA) for adoption and purchase in the 2025-2026 academic year. Once available for review, the digital resources will be posted and available for review.  The core resources submitted for evaluation will be selected from the state adoption consideration lists.

CCPS Division of Learning will convene an ELA Instructional Materials Adoption Committee to consider new instructional materials for 2025 and beyond.

    Meetings will be posted on the district website’s homepage at least 3 days prior to the convening of the meeting. These meetings are open to the public; however, there will be no opportunity for public input at the committee meetings.

    January 8, 2026

    Twenty (20) day window for online access to student editions of recommended Instructional Materials on the district web-site for public review.

    *January 21-February 9, 2026

    Open, noticed school board hearing to receive public comment on the recommended instructional materials.

    School Board Regular Meeting to hear recommendation to approve and purchase K-12 ELA  Instructional Materials**

    *February 10. 2026

    Thirty (30) day window to accept petitions to challenge the approval of the recommended Instructional Materials. 

    *February 11- March 12, 2026

    If petitions are received, open public hearing before an unbiased and qualified hearing officer. 

    *April 7, 2026

    If petitions are received, the Board shall consider the recommended order from the Unbiased Hearing Officer and enter a final order at a publicly noticed School Board meeting.

    *May 5, 2026

    Advisory Meeting Called to Order:  3:00 p.m.

    1. Welcome and Introductions
      1. Ms. Lisa Oberdier, Director K-12 Curriculum, welcomed the Advisory Committees and thanked them for their time and talent.
      2. Ms. Oberdier introduced Heather Garcia and Na’Shara Tyson, the Lead Facilitators.
    2. Administrative Process
      1. Lead Facilitator reviewed the purpose, objectives, format, meeting norms, and next steps for the group.

      1. Committee Facilitator distributed folders with the applicable data.
      2. Committee Facilitator provided 10 minutes for Advisory Committee Members to independently review and carefully consider the applicable data.
    2. Open Discussion
      1. Each Advisory Committee Member was given 2 minutes to provide an overview of their overall opinion on what they reviewed.

     

    Florida Wonders/McGraw Hill

    • Easily accessible/navigate - could locate things quickly
    • Student friendly
    • Liked the lesson flow
    • BEST and Civics books were incorporated which is very beneficial

     

    Benchmark

    • Could not find any new updates
    • Not developmentally appropriate for children
    • No relatability to small kids
    • No practice workbooks
    • Text is too hard and not engaging
    • Writing component is better
    • Lessons are straightforward
    • Cycles through standards well
    • Dry and unrelatable
    • Kids like the small group books
    • Not hitting the rigor
    • Kids are struggling with the leveled readers - teachers have to pull additional resources to make this work
    • Not ESE friendly

    • Level of questioning was not rigorous enough
    • Not hard enough but cute
    • Likes that Amira is embedded
    • Good that supplemental resources come with the program

    • ELL support was great
    • Easy to navigate
    • BEST selections were focused on which was positive
    • Liked that it had a lot of poetry
    • Presentation and content were engaging
    • Passages were below grade level
    • Found it hard to locate things
    • Audio was listener-friendly
    • On-line identification was easy to manage not cluttered
    • Felt it had more historical texts
    • Annotation was less busy

     

     

    Savvas/My Perspectives

    • Cross curriculum was good
    • Had great audios
    • Interaction component was easy to navigate
    • Did not have enough poetry
    • Was not engaging
    • Hard to navigate for some
    • Familiar since we are using this now
    • Stories were dry
    • Like having the test workbook
    • Platform was good
    • Felt it was loaded with supplementals
    • Did not feel it was going to be engaging enough to students, they will lose interest quickly
    • Lack of poetry

    • Tasks were difficult and time-consuming

    • User friendly
    • ELL friendly
    • Has very useful resources - video and audio
    • Good for incorporating into CCPS curriculum maps
    • Has good AI feedback
    • Reading stamina is good
    • Content aligns with what we are doing
    • It seems there have not been any updates to the program
    • The 11th and 12th grade books are very large and are a lot to handle for the amount of students that are using them in classroom - it is hard to keep track of them
    • It aligns well with the AICE/Cambridge program
    • Flexible writing opportunities
    • Found it may be hard to engage 11th and 12th grade students - better for 9th and 10th grade
    • Found there weren’t enough resources for teachers which would make it more difficult and require more work for them

    StudySync/McGraw Hill

    • No new updates
    • Seemed fast and had the best text
    • Pre-reading activities were a good option - it has access to all grade levels of texts
    • It didn’t seem very captivating to challenge students
    • Liked the off-line access
    • Seemed a bit outdated
    • Felt it was more engaging for 11th and 12th grades

    • Could be helpful for ELL and ESE students
    • Good for independent readers

ELA Textbook Review

Dear CCPS parents and community members,

Charlotte County Public Schools is excited to invite you to review the materials being considered for the K-12 English Language Arts textbook adoption that is currently underway. 

If you choose to participate, all comments that you place in the EdCredible review platform will be provided to the textbook recommendation committees to take into consideration as they make their final recommendations. The community feedback window will close on November 10, 2025. 

To access the materials for review, please follow these steps:

  • Go to the EdCredible website link below

  • Create a FREE EdCredible account

  • Once you are signed in, find Charlotte County Public Schools on the left-hand side of the screen

  • Choose the materials you wish to review

  • Once you review the materials, you will be able to leave a comment

The District is seeking teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, parents, and community members to take part in the English Language Arts Instructional Materials Adoption process.  If you are interested in helping out, please select your desired committee and fill out the form from the list below.
