CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — Charlotte County Public Schools held its second aviation hangar ribbon cutting in as many weeks on Thursday, April 2, marking the opening of a new facility at Charlotte High School. The $6.5 million hangar expands workforce training opportunities for students pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace. The event follows the March 24 opening of the Aviation Training Facility at Charlotte Technical College, part of a coordinated expansion of aviation programming across the district.
Superintendent Mark Vianello said the facilities strengthen connections between education and workforce needs. “We set out to ensure our school system is part of the workforce and economic solution, not only within our community, but across the region and throughout the state,” he said. “This facility represents that vision in action by connecting students directly to real-world opportunities.”
Florida Rep. Danny Nix and Space Florida Vice President Mike Miller also spoke at the event, emphasizing collaboration between education, industry, and workforce development.
School Board Chair John LeClair said the investments will have long-term impact. “This is about providing our students with access to experiences that prepare them for what comes next. We are creating opportunities that keep talent here, support local industry, and position Charlotte County as a leader in workforce readiness,” he said.
The hangar will provide hands-on training in aviation maintenance and related fields. Together, the two facilities create a pathway from high school to advanced training and certification.
