Charlotte County, FL – Charlotte County Public Schools (CCPS), alongside Charlotte Technical College (CTC), the Charlotte County Airport Authority, and community partners, celebrated the official ribbon cutting of the new Aviation Training Facility on March 23, 2026. The completion of this facility represents a major investment in workforce development and expanded career pathways for students across the region.
Located near the PGD Air Center within the Aviation Expansion Area, the new training facility is designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in the aviation industry. The program offers hands-on instruction in Aviation Maintenance Technology, equipping students with the skills needed to become certified Aviation Maintenance General Technicians and Aviation Powerplant Maintenance Technicians.
The 19,420-square-foot facility includes a 10,000-square-foot hangar, dedicated classroom space, specialized labs, and industry-standard equipment to support real-world training experiences. The project was made possible through $5.75 million in state funding secured during the 2022–2024 legislative sessions.
“This facility represents what is possible when education, industry, and community partners come together with a shared vision,” said Superintendent Mark Vianello. “Our students will have access to cutting-edge training that leads directly to high-skill, high-wage careers. This is about creating opportunities and ensuring our graduates are prepared to succeed in a competitive workforce.”
School Board Chair John LeClair emphasized the long-term impact on the community and local economy. “This is a strategic investment in Charlotte County’s future,” said LeClair. “We are building a direct pipeline between education and industry, ensuring students can step into meaningful careers while also supporting the workforce needs that drive our local economy forward.”
CCPS extends its appreciation to state leaders Senator Ben Albritton, Representative Michael Grant, and Representative Spencer Roach for their support in securing funding for the project. Their commitment has helped bring this vision to life and strengthen workforce development efforts in Southwest Florida.
The facility was designed by C&S Companies and constructed by Stellar Development, Inc., with the Charlotte County Airport Authority overseeing project management and coordination with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
The Aviation Training Facility at Charlotte Technical College is expected to play a critical role in meeting the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals while providing students with direct access to meaningful, career-focused education.
