CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Governor Ron DeSantis has signed the 2025–2026 state budget, officially approving a $1.75 million appropriation to support workforce development efforts in Charlotte County. The funds will establish the Southwest Florida Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, a regional hub for education and job training in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

The initiative will deliver hands-on training and industry-recognized credentials to students and adult learners, building a skilled talent pipeline to meet the demands of Southwest Florida’s growing industrial sector. The new training facility will be located within the Enterprise Charlotte Airport Park (ECAP) at Punta Gorda Airport, providing accessible programming that supports economic development and job creation across the region.

“This funding is a critical step in building a strong talent pipeline in Southwest Florida,” said Superintendent Mark Vianello of Charlotte County Public Schools. “By aligning education with industry needs, we’re creating opportunities that benefit students, job seekers, and our entire local economy.”

Sponsored by Representative Vanessa Oliver and Senate President Ben Albritton, the appropriation highlights a strong partnership between Charlotte County Public Schools, local leaders, and state policymakers committed to supporting long-term economic growth and workforce development in the region. “The inclusion of the Southwest Florida Advanced Manufacturing Training Center appropriation in this year’s State budget is a major win for Florida’s workforce, economy, and future,” said Representative Vanessa Oliver. “This funding will open doors for students and strengthen Florida’s future in high-skill, high-wage industries.”

“As the School Board Legislative Liaison, I’m proud to see the $1.75 million appropriation for the Advanced Manufacturing Training Facility included in this year’s state budget,” said School Board Member Kim Amontree. “We’re grateful to Representative Vanessa Oliver and Senate President Ben Albritton for championing this initiative. Their support reflects a clear understanding that school districts are key partners in building a workforce pipeline that attracts industry, supports our local economy, and creates long-term opportunities for Southwest Florida.”

The program will prepare participants for careers in high-demand industries by aligning education with real-world workforce needs. In doing so, it positions Charlotte County as a leader in regional economic development while creating new pathways for student success.
