Charlotte County, Fla. — Charlotte County Public Schools is pleased to announce that Steve Smith has been selected as the next principal of L.A. Ainger Middle School. Smith will succeed Principal Bruce Fourman, who is transitioning to a leadership role at the district office. The two administrators will work together to ensure a smooth transition, effective at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in education, most recently serving as assistant principal at Lemon Bay High School for the past four and a half years. He has also held leadership roles as principal and director of SKY Academy Charter Schools in Sarasota County.

“Steve is a passionate, student-centered leader who brings a strong track record,” said Superintendent Mark Vianello. “As an Englewood native and former L.A. Ainger student, he brings a personal connection and commitment to this school and community. We’re confident he will continue building on the school’s success and lead it into a bright future.”

Smith shared his excitement about the new role, stating, “I am extremely excited for the opportunity to be principal of L.A. Ainger Middle School. I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to be the first principal to have attended L.A. Ainger as a student. I look forward to joining an amazing staff and working with the students and parents of this great community of Englewood.”

Smith began his career at Lemon Bay High School in 1997 as a teacher and coach before moving into administrative roles in both Sarasota and Charlotte counties. He holds a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Florida State University and a Master of Arts in educational leadership from the University of South Florida. He is an active member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Florida Association of School Administrators and the Consortium of Florida Charter Schools.
