Magnet Programs/School Choice
Why School Choice Matters
Academic Interest
Academic interest is more than just a fleeting curiosity; it's the driving force behind a student's educational journey. When students are genuinely interested in a subject, they are more likely to:
- Engage Deeply: Immerse themselves in the material, actively participating in discussions and activities.
- Retain Information: Develop a stronger understanding and remember key concepts more effectively.
- Problem-Solve Effectively: Apply their knowledge to real-world challenges and innovative solutions.
- Develop a Growth Mindset: Embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and improvement.
- Pursue Lifelong Learning: Cultivate a passion for knowledge and continue to explore their interests beyond the classroom.
Social and Emotional Development
School provides a supportive environment where students can develop social skills, build friendships, and enhance their emotional well-being.
Future Success
Regular attendance instills valuable habits such as punctuality, responsibility, and commitment, which are essential for success in life.
What is a Magnet Program?
A Magnet Program is a tuition-free public school option that offers a specialized curriculum focused on a specific theme, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the Performing Arts, or CTE (Career Technical Education). Unlike neighborhood schools, Magnet Programs allow students to attend schools outside their assigned zone to pursue their specific academic interests and talents. Transportation will be provided for high school students attending magnet programs outside their designated school zone.
How do I get my child into a Magnet Program?

Ready to apply? The application window opens at the beginning of the second semester, typically at the end of January. Follow these four steps to secure your spot:
Apply Online: Fill out the Magnet Program Application via the district portal during the application window.
Check Your Status: Once the deadline passes, keep an eye on your email. You will receive a notification stating whether your child has been accepted or placed on a waitlist.
Confirm Your Spot: If accepted, you must complete the Reassignment Form on the Open Enrollment page to claim your seat.
Get Ready: Once you submit the reassignment form, you are all set! Your new school will contact you with details for the upcoming academic year.
