State and District Child Nutrition Leaders Recognize CCPS Food Service Director Bill Seibert

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL — Charlotte County Public Schools’ Food and Nutrition Services department was recognized at the 2026 Child Nutrition Directors Meeting, held April 7 at the Tampa Convention Center, for its innovative and compliant approach to school meal planning and nutrition education.

The department received recognition for “blending creativity with compliance” in school meal planning, highlighting its ability to meet federal nutrition requirements while designing menus that are engaging and appealing to students.

Through creative menu planning, the team continues to develop scratch-made recipes that balance nutrition standards with student preferences. Featured menu items include peach crisp made with diced peaches, the Champ’s Griddle breakfast sandwich, homemade smoothies featuring blended fruits, and a variety of popular entree selections such as baked pasta dishes and taco offerings.

Beyond daily menu offerings, Charlotte County’s Food and Nutrition Services team continues to expand student engagement through themed nutrition programming and education initiatives. During National School Lunch Week, the district featured the theme “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport,” with daily menus highlighting cuisines from different cultures. Educational signage was displayed above serving lines to help students learn about the history and cultural significance of featured foods as they moved through the cafeteria.

The department also places a strong emphasis on vegetable consumption through its “Vitamins in Veggies Week” initiative, which highlights the nutritional value of vegetables served in school meals. Interactive signage connects menu items with key vitamins and their benefits, such as vitamin A in carrots supporting healthy vision. The program also includes friendly competition among schools for the Coveted Carrot Award, recognizing the highest vegetable participation.
Charlotte County also highlighted its ongoing work in nutrition education, staff training and kitchen best practices, including standardized cooking manuals, portion guidance tools and annual training on USDA meal pattern requirements.
