The safety of our children isn’t just a priority—it’s the foundation of everything we do. When I became superintendent over two years ago, I pledged to put the well-being of our students and staff at the forefront of every decision. While so much in education matters, nothing matters more than the peace of mind that comes from knowing our schools are secure places where every child can learn and thrive without fear.
That commitment is at the heart of our mission, and drives our comprehensive safety plan—powerful, proactive, and built on collaboration. We work closely with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and the Punta Gorda Police Department. Their expertise helps us coordinate strategies, prepare for emergencies, and respond quickly to any threat.
We’ve also invested in modern technology to strengthen security and provide a strong first line of defense. Fencing, cameras, and one-button lockdown systems allow staff to secure classrooms and protect students in seconds. Still, the true strength of our plan lies in people. School Resource Officers (SROs), school safety specialists, and mental health professionals are an essential part of our schools. They build trust with students and staff, deter threats, and provide invaluable expertise every day.
School safety is a collective responsibility, and our entire community plays a vital role. We encourage everyone—students, staff, and parents—to immediately report any unusual behavior or concerns using the Bully Button or the FortifyFL app found on the district webpage. This early reporting allows us to swiftly address issues before they escalate. I urge parents to remind their children that all threats are taken seriously, as even one comment can disrupt learning and carry severe consequences. Our campuses must remain safe places where students can focus on their futures, and we will respond decisively to any threat.
This vital work is a shared success, made possible by the support of the Charlotte County community. Your approval of the referendum is a profound investment in protecting our students. Together, we are not just securing our schools; we are building a foundation of safety that protects our children today and shapes a brighter tomorrow for us all.
