Charlotte County School District Ranks 24th in the State Under New Grading Scale

Charlotte County, FL (July 24, 2024) Today, the Florida State Board of Education released school grades under a new grading scale.

With the availability of two years of progress monitoring data, the school grading formula has been revised to reintroduce annual learning gains components for English Language Arts and Mathematics. The last time learning gains and proficiency were factored in, Charlotte County ranked 33rd in the state. This improvement to 24th in the state reflects our district's dedication to enhancing educational standards and achieving greater student success.

"Improving our state ranking, while increasing the number of "A" schools is a remarkable accomplishment during a year of transition. This success reflects the hard work and commitment of our students, teachers, and staff. We are extremely proud of our high-rated schools and are committed to continuous improvement across the board, states Superintendent Mark Vianello. As we advance our strategic plan and introduce a new instructional framework, adding instructional coaches and focusing on building academic rigor will be fundamental to driving our district toward even greater achievements. “

Today’s release of 2024 district and school grades provides the following overall highlights:

  • CCPS increased the number of "A" schools within the district.
  • CCPS remains a "B" rated district.
  • CCPS has no "D" or "F" rated schools.
  • 73% of the graduating class earned a College and Career Acceleration point, outperforming the state average by 7%.
  • 73% of middle school students earned a level 3 or higher on the Civics End of Course exam, outperforming the state average by 6%.
  • 61% of students earned a level 3 or higher on the seventh-grade FAST Mathematics assessment, outperforming the state average  by 14%.
  • 61% of students scored a level 3 or higher on the fourth grade FAST Mathematics assessment, surpassing the state average by 3%.

The following Charlotte County schools have attained an "A" distinction:

  • Sallie Jones Elementary School
  • Vineland Elementary School
  • L.A. Ainger Middle School
  • Port Charlotte Middle School
  • Florida Southwestern Collegiate High School
