Charlotte Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution

Essay Contest

The Charlotte Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) sponsors an annual American History Essay Contest for the students of the Charlotte County Public Schools in Punta Gorda. Students in grades five through eight are encouraged to participate. The topic for this year’s DAR Essay Contest was ‘The Women’s Suffrage Campaign’

Essays were judged for historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness. This year, Callen Madden, an 5th grade student at Sallie Jones Elementary School, won 1st place in the essay contest.  The DAR recognized Callen, as well as, her classmates that also participated at an awards presentation.
