Degrees and Certifications:
James Vernon is the Principal of Deep Creek Elementary School. He is married to Joanne Vernon who is the County Engineer for Charlotte County and they have two daughters that attend school in the Charlotte County Public School system. The Vernons love traveling and visiting different cities in the US, eventually that travel will lead overseas. Mr. Vernon has never doubted a career in education and strives to promote a positive culture at the DCE campus each day.
Mr. Vernon is a proud product of CCPS attending both Peace River and Neil Armstrong Elementary Schools, Murdock Middle School , and achieving high school graduation from Port Charlotte High. He achieved a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Florida State University. During his career, he has taught grades ranging from 3rd – 12th, coached middle school and high school basketball, served as Dean of Students at Murdock Middle School and the Athletic Director at Port Charlotte High. Mr. Vernon continued his education by earning a Master of Education with a focus on Educational Leadership at Nova South Eastern University. Mr. Vernon accepted his first Elementary leadership at Deep Creek in 2014.

Keli Sare is the Assistant Principal of Deep Creek Elementary. Mrs. Sare is married and has two wonderful children that attend Charlotte County schools. Her family keeps her busy with soccer and gymnastics practices when she is away from school. She has a love for all things polka dotted or striped and always has a smile on her face.
Mrs. Sare was fortunate to grow up in Charlotte County where she attended Neil Armstrong Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Murdock Middle School, and Port Charlotte High School. As a young child, she admired her teachers and knew almost instantly that she wanted to grow up and be just like them. After graduating high school, Mrs. Sare attended the University of South Florida where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. She put this degree to use in Charlotte County working as a teacher for twelve years and as a Lead Teacher (Curriculum and Instruction Coach) for six years. While teaching and leading, Mrs. Sare used grit and perseverance to go back to school in the evenings to obtain her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.
Building strong relationships, inspiring a love of learning, student engagement, and student elevation are priorities for Mrs. Sare. These passions led to her being awarded the Charlotte County Public Schools Teacher of the Year Award in 2018, the Macy’s Magic of Engagement Award, and the Governor’s Shine Award. She Joined the Deep Creek Family as the Assistant Principal in June of 2019.
