    The Testing Center at Charlotte Technical Center offers a wide variety of important tests and valuable professional industry certifications. Passing key tests and acquiring industry certification can be your ticket to a better life.

    Professional certification is found in almost every industry today for many reasons. It helps advance the profession. It helps employers evaluate potential new hires, analyze job performance, evaluate employees, select contractors, market services, and motivate employees to enhance their skills and knowledge. Certificate holders benefit as well. Certification gives recognition of competency, shows commitment to the profession, helps with job advancement, and may afford greater earnings potential.

    The following is a list of the various exams and professional industry certifications currently available through Charlotte Technical Center.

    Autodesk

    CTC is an Autodesk Authorized Test Center. Certification is available for the following Autodesk products: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autodesk Inventor, and Revit Architecture. The Autodesk Certification program gives students the opportunity to validate their knowledge and skills, helping accelerate their entry into the design industry.

    F-BAT
    The Florida Basic Abilities Test (F-BAT) meets the needs of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing candidates for law enforcement (LEBAT), corrections (COBAT) and correctional probation (PROBAT).

    ISCET

    The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) has helped train, prepare, and test technicians in the electronics and appliance service industry for over thirty years. The Certified Electronics Technician (CET) Program, founded in 1965, is designed to measure the degree of theoretical knowledge and technical proficiency of practicing technicians.

    Certifications available include Associate Level Electronics, Multimedia Systems Technician, Electronics Systems Associate, Journeyman Level, NASTeC National Appliance Service Technician, and FCC Elements 1, 3, 5-9.

    National Healthcareer Association

     Individuals who pass the certification exam will be recognized as Nationally Certified Allied Healthcare professionals. With certification, you will earn credentials to use with your name, a certification ID card and a certificate.

    Certifications available include Medical Administrative Assistant, EKG Technician, Phlebotomy Technician.

    ParaPro
     

    The ParaPro assessment measures skills and knowledge in reading, writing, and math of prospective, as well as practicing, paraprofessionals. It also measures the ability to apply these skills and knowledge in the classroom. It was designed to satisfy the federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act.

    Pearson VUE

    The T.A.B.E. Test

     The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a timed battery of tests covering reading, math and language skills and is required by the Florida Department of Education for many GED-prep and career courses.

    Testing Waiver Technical students can be waived with original documentation of an Associate in Applied Science degree or higher (AAS, ATD, AS, AA, BA, BS, etc.) from an accredited U.S. institution. If you have documented testing accomodations, please let the testing center know prior to testing.

    What can I expect on the TABE test?

    Your reading, math and language skills will be assessed.

    Reading is primarily comprehension skills:

    • Demonstrate understanding of information presented in graphic formats (maps, signs, graphs, consumer materials).
    • Understand words in context.
    • Understand the literal meaning of a passage.
    • Identify the main idea.
    • Draw conclusions.
    • Recognize cause and effect.
    • Demonstrate critical understanding by making predictions, distinguishing between fact and opinion, transferring ideas to other situations and identifying the author’s purpose.

    Math includes two sections:

    Math Computation:

    • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, integers (positive and negative numbers), percents
    • Order of operations
    • Algebraic Operations involving exponents, roots; solve equations; simplify expressions

    Applied Mathematics: (word problems format; calculator can be used in this section only)

    • Numbers and number operations
    • Computation in context
    • Estimation
    • Measurement
    • Geometry and spatial sense
    • Data analysis
    • Statistics and probability
    • Patterns, functions, algebra
    • Problem solving and reasoning

    Language includes:

    • Appropriate use of parts of speech
    • Sentence formation
    • Paragraph development
    • Capitalization
    • Punctuation
    • Writing conventions (quotation marks, apostrophes and letter parts)

    Wonderlic

    The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is a short form measure of adult language and math skills which are generally learned in high school. The WBST is used to identify students and job applicants who have the skills to successfully handle the written and computational requirements of any career training program or entry level job.
