WHAT DOES MY CHILD'S MUSIC GRADE REPRESENT?
Grades are NOT punishment. Grades are not rewards. The grade on your child's quarterly grade report represents my best assessment of your child's progress/status for that quarter when compared to the Florida State Standards. These standards can be reviewed at www.coalms.org. Many things can effect that assessment, including your child's attendance and participation. There is one official grade for each quarter, which will be on your child's grade report. Various assessments may take place during the quarter which will help to inform my grading process. You will have access to those grades in FOCUS, but they do not constitute your child's entire grade, which could be higher or lower.
CAN I SEE THESE ASSESSMENTS?
YES! Ask your child to log in to Quaver Music from any web enabled device. You can see the lessons, the quizzes, your child's answers, and the correct answers. (And a lot more!)
WHEN DO THESE ASSESSMENTS TAKE PLACE?
Every UNIT in the Quaver Curriculum covers three class periods. Any lesson divisible by three (3, 6, 9, 12, etc.) will include the unit quiz for the presceding weeks. Parents can track the class schedule via the Lesson and Assignment Calendar.
WHY IS MUSIC GRADED?
Music is a curricular subject supported at the local, state and federal levels. While not every student will become an amatuer or professional musician, the skills that music teaches support critical thinking, organization, self-assessment, and life-long learning.
MY CHILD WAS ABSENT...NOW WHAT?
All lessons and assessments are set up so that an absent student has at least one week to make up any graded work. Ofter that week is up, the student will have further access to the lesson online for independent learning or review. In special cases the one week window (for credit) can be extended by agreement between the parents/guardians and myself.
