The purpose of this course is to provide grade 9 students integrated language arts study in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and languauge for college and career preparation.
Course content includes, but is not limited to:
-active reading of varied texts for explicit and inferred meaning
-analysis of literature and non-fiction texts from a variety of periods to examine:
-craft & structure
- elements of literature
- key ideas & details
- claims and arguments
- influences of history and culture on literature
- writing for various purposes
-developing and supporting argumentative claims
- crafting coherent, supported expository texts
- responding to literature
- writing using text based evidence
Students are expected to be attentive and focused during class and are expected to arrive on time. They are expected to put forth the effort necessary to be successful. They are expected to complete all assignments to the best of their ability and to turn them in on time. Students are expeceted to behave appropriately, must adhere to all CHS and CCPS rules at all times, and are expected to fully adhere to policies set forth in the CCPS Student Code of Conduct.
