PCHS CLAIMS 14th REGIONAL MUN CHAMPIONSHIP AT NAPLES!

For the 14th consecutive year, the PCHS Model United Nations Academic Team has claimed the Southwest Florida Regional championship.  Several Freshmen team members were ACTUALLY born the first year that the Pirates won this championship!

37 country teams from 19 schools competed in the two-day event at FGCU.

The PCHS RUSSIA delegation won the FIRST PLACE "BEST DELEGATION" Award, and another PCHS delegation representing PAKISTAN won the SECOND PLACE "OUTSTANDING DELEGATION" Award.

This marks the 13th consecutive year that PCHS has won at least first and second place at this conference.

Four more Pirate Seniors were awarded $1,500.00 scholarships by the conference sponsors, The Naples Conference on World Affairs.

Since 2003, PCHS Seniors have been awarded 34 of the 39 scholarships ($51,000.00) presented at the conference for their "CAREERS OF EXCELLENCE".

This year's scholarship winners were: CHRISTOPHER STAMPAR, whose award is actually a full-ride scholarship to FGCU, but since Chris will be attending another university, it reverts to a $1,500.00 scholarship.  Other senior scholarship winners were JOHN RIOUX, JACKSON BARNETT, and JASON MAHON.

PCHS MUN TAKES TOP HONORS IN PHILADELPHIA!!!

Port Charlotte High's Model United Nations Academic Team spent four days in Philadelphia at the Ivy League Model UN Conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, competing against 150 other high schools from across the country, as well as schools from China, Venezuela, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Costa Rica, etc.

The major battle for top school honors was between PCHS, powerhouse West Winsor Plainsboro (Princeton U. School) and the top ranked school in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, Thomas Jefferson.  PCHS did not have the advantage of representing one of the P-5 most powerful nations as did our competitors.  PCHS represented the nations of Senegal and Paraguay.

PCHS distanced itself from T.J. and W.W.P. and the other 147 schools by winning seven BEST DELEGATE awards, seven OUTSTANDING (2nd place) awards, four HONORABLE MENTION (3rd place) awards, and seven VERBAL COMMENDATIONS (4th place awards).

2,500 hundred students competed intensely for the few individual awards of excellence presented in each of 21 United Nations committee simulations.  Under 7% of those students competing received such honors.  With 25 of 33 delegates receiving such coveted awards, PCHS achieved a 75% rate of individual recognition.  Only one BEST DELEGATE award is presented in each committee of up to 300 student competitors.

Winning FIRST PLACE BEST DELEGATE AWARDS in their respective committees were:  Seniors - JOHN RIOUX, JACKSON BARNETT and CAMERON FERNANDEZ;  Junior - ALI FULLINGTON; Sophomores - DANIELLE RIOUX and AMANDA PIAZZA; and Freshman MADDY SPENCER.

Winning SECOND PLACE OUTSTANDING DELEGATE AWARDS were:  Seniors - CAMERON MATHEWSON, CHRIS STAMPAR, ROSIE MANCINI and JASON MAHON;  Sophomores NICK STAMPAR and SAMANTHA LUCE; and Freshman JESSE HEVIA.

Winning THIRD PLACE HONORABLE MENTION AWARDS were: Seniors KAROLINA POVEDYCH and TOMMY THOMAS; Junior PATRICK RUSSELL; and Sophomore NICOLE ROCKOWER.

Winning FOURTH PLACE VERBAL COMMENDATIONS were: Seniors ANNA CHEN, BRIAN SPADAFORA, MEGAN GERACE, and ALISON BOWMAN; Juniors JASON LIU and ALEX KISELEV; and Freshman ANDREW AMONTREE.

The victory pushes the PCHSMUN head to head record against other schools this year to
235 - 0 ...

Next up is the Southwest Florida Regional Conference in Naples in March.
